Smash and grab Stevenage steal all 3

Notts where punished by an injury time winner in a match where they struggled to threaten a commanding Stevenage back line of what appeared at times to be 6 or more.

Curle had shuffled the deck and decided to start with Showumni assumedly to give the front line more ‘presence’ but he again struggled to make any kind of impact and will be disappointed with his performance, in fairness he looks the kind of player who needs to be given a ball in the box to head, he rarely if ever got given this opportunity; Notts failed to create much up top due to this and despite managing to earn two penalties only managed to score once, other than this they rarely threatened.

The closing moments of the game saw Notts gift two soft goals leaving Stevanage fans thinking Christmas had come early, Alan Sheehans lunatic handball superman impression earning him a straight red gifting Stevenage a penalty was the start of the downfall, the bitter icing was yet to come with sloppy defending presenting all 3 points on a plate in the dying minutes.

Boos at the referee on the final whistle where nothing more than sour grapes, despite having a woeful match, the referee was not the reason for Notts leaving empty handed.

Notts 1 – 2 Stevenage

Pies put Pompey to the sword

An initially disjointed first half performance saw Notts leading 1-0 at the break thanks to Arquin but it really should have been more with chances begging, Pompey where lucky not to be playing with 10 men as Dumbuyas wild two footed lunge early on seemed to evade all officials.

Notts clicked into gear in the second half playing fast entertaining football, Alan Judge scoring an early candidate for goal of the season which will no doubt be replayed time and time again, he then turned creator for the second time setting up Arquin, his control and finish where both superb.

Kudos to the traveling support who despite being 0-3 down did nothing but sing.

Notts 3 – 0 Portsmouth

Tough Shrews undone by the two Hughes

Notts made hard work of Shrewsbury after dominating early possession but again where worryingly unable to capitalise despite a host of chances and corners in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half brought this match alive with a well worked goal from Zoko opening the scoring after an unselfish cross from Jeff Hughes; Shrewsbury reacted quickly after being gifted a soft penalty and moments later Shrews leggy defender Grandison put them 1-2 ahead making the Notts back line look like blowups, sending Shrews fans wild.

Celebrations for the Shrews where short-lived as Jeff Hughes made his mark again heading home from close distance, Hughes’ namesake Lee entered the pitch ten minutes from time to do what he does best cooly finishing from close distance with a lovely 180 turn after a fine burst of pace from Arquin down the wing,

Notts 3 -  2 Shrews

Wasteful Notts bend over to Walsall

Notts where left ruing countless chances as the almost inevitable Walsall sucker punch came 10 minutes from time.

An unfit and untrained Showumni the icing on the afternoons frustrations as further opportunities went begging, to paraphrase Jeremy Kyle ‘why don’t you put something on the end of it

Notts 0 – 1 Walsall

Zoko makes it 2 in 2 to see off Hartlepool

A tidy headed finish from Zoko in the first half and a poachers goal from Bishop following a knock back from Lee Hughes where enough for all 3 points at a sodden meadow lane.

Notts 2 – 0 Hartlepool

Notts hold on for all 3 Vs Crewe

New strikers go from impressive to depressive but Notts hold on for all 3 points. Goals from Zoko in the first half and Arquin seemingly wrapping the game up with Notts’ second before daftly getting sent off.

Crewe  1 -2 Notts

This is my no nonsense notts site seeing as the official site is now pants.

RIP David Bayliss who used to own the URL and provided a similarly succinct overview for many years.
